In Rememberance of Keith

Staff Sgt. Keith R. Bishop, 28, died on Oct. 26, when the helicopter he was aboard crashed while conducting a combat mission in Afghanistan. Keith was the husband and love of my niece Maggie's life. He was a true American hero, a loving husband, brother, son, and great man.
He will be missed by all.

Amanda & Jason Engagement

I love hearing the story of how couple's meet or become engaged, not only is it fun to hear but it tells a lot about their relationship and the bond they share. Jason and Amanda are two of the sweetest and most positive people I have met in a long time and I am so excited to share in their special day next year! Here's a little story Jason sent me....
For this relationship to continue, Jason had to become a Detroit Red Wings fan if he wanted to spend time with his girlfriend. Amanda wanted to treat Jason to a Red Wings game in Detroit so he could experience the joys of Hockeytown. For Christmas, Amanda bought tickets to the game and decided dinner at HockeyTown cafe beforehand was necessary. The only gift Amanda asked for that Christmas was a #13 Pavel Datsyuk Jersey. While eating dinner at Hockeytown Cafe, the Christmas music was suddenly turned up. Jason, uncharacteristically, became rattled about this and asked the waitress for the music to be turned down. Amanda told Jason that he was being a scrooge and told the waitress to not worry about it. Little did she know that wrapped with her Datsyuk Jersey would be a small box, which contained a beautiful ring. The couple celebrated the event with a Red Wings game, who luckily pulled out a come from behind win!!!
Of course we had to get a shot with their Jersey's!

Melissa & David Engagement

Heavenly Scent Herb Farm http://www.heavenlyscentherbfarm.com/ has always been one of my favorite places in Michigan. Every Spring I look forward to piling in the car with my mom and sisters to make a day of meandering around the gardens taking in every last detail and then trying really hard to bring that inspiration home to my own garden. You can only imagine how excited I was to be asked by Melissa and David to shoot their wedding there! An incredibly romantic and magical location combined with a gorgeous and sweet couple as well as my passion for weddings-life cannot get much better! Here's a little sneak peek......

Lorraine & David Wedding

Just a Sneak Peek....
Lorraine & David's wedding was amazingly beautiful! The ceremony took place at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Ann Arbor followed by a reception at Barton Hills Country Club. A big thanks to wedding planner Ana from TwoFoot Creative (www.twofootcreative.com) for taking care of all of those little details that made for a perfect wedding! My favorite shot is the one of David's face when Lorraine was walking down the aisle-I think everyone was in tears! More to come....

Angela & Dan Wedding

A sneak peek at what's coming soon......

Anna & Alex Wedding

Anna lights up a room with her beautiful smile and contagious laugh and it's easy to see why Alex fell for her the way he did. Alex is strong and confident and Anna told me that in his presence she feels at ease and peaceful, like anything is possible. In Anna's own words: "Soon after we started dating I think we both knew that we had a connection that was much deeper than we could have originally expected. But it took being away from each other for a short time to realize that we loved each other and that we did not like being apart from one another. Alex first told me that he loved me after I returned from a week long vacation to Disney world. I quickly and confidently said those same things.Since that time, we have built a strong relationship. We lived together, laughed together, cried together and loved together. The day he proposed to me was the happiest day of my life; that is until the day we were actually married." Anna's mom Tobi came over to me at the end of the night with a big smile on her face and tears in her eyes and said " We did it. My dream was to make Anna's dream a reality. And we did it."
Yes, you definitely did and it was a beautiful day!

The Bubble Room

After Reanna & Marshall's ceremony in Ann Arbor the wedding party stopped off at Vineology for a few drinks. Reanna loves the Bubble Room and convinced me to see it a while ago and I've been wanting to take my husband there ever since! The Bubble Room earned its name after Vineology owners commissioned their friends at Furnace Hot Glass in Dearborn to create and hang 400 hand-blown glass balls from the ceiling. To complement this luxurious installation and the exposed stone and brick walls they added soft lighting, a mahogany bar, and sheer curtains for a feeling of subtle and elegant privacy. A sculpture on the back wall describes the various champagne production processes and soil boxes once again hang above each table. The room is small and intimate and perfect for a romantic gathering.

Here I am.....

I've been meaning to write but one day leads to the next, life is busy and well..here I am months later! Much has happened in the months since I've been MIA, so many beautiful couples have gotten engaged, many have gotten married and previous clients are now starting families. I have the greatest job in the world because I get to document these unforgettable moments in life and then share them here with you!
While editing Reanna & Marshall's wedding tonight, I stopped for a moment to check email. I have to share the most beautiful email I have ever received from a client! I've read it over and over again and each time it brings tears to my eyes because it's true validation for my work and it is the exact reason I love wedding photography! Angela & John: Congratulations on the birth of your daughter and many thanks for such kind words. -K
" Although I should have wrote our true gratitude and appreciation for the quality of work that Kathleen Voss put into our wedding and the moments that she stopped in time for us, it wasn’t until today that I could even comprehend how much each photo means to us. Yesterday my husband John, came home from work, looked at our daughter in my arms, and gave me this smile that was all too familiar. The look in his eyes ran through my soul and filled my heart. I had this urge to spend today looking through our wedding photos. To my surprise, I didn’t just find John’s beaming smile in those photos, but I saw the feeling of love running through our veins. The pictures that Kathleen took on our wedding day were not frozen snapshots, but timeless moments of feelings that tell the story of the most important day of our lives. And when we look back at these pictures, they speak so loudly about the love that we share. And for this precious gift that she gave us, we are forever grateful. Our wedding day came and went so quickly. We learned that the concept of time is relative to happiness; the happier we are the quicker life seems to fly by. One blink and the day already passed, the end of our dance song “you’re just to be good to be true, can’t take my eyes off of you” faded into the night, and a room decorated in colors of wine and rose once full of our friends and family is transformed into a new color scheme waiting for the next couple’s blink. After the honeymoon, thank-you’s, and getting reacquainted with an old routine, we spent so much time wishing we could slowdown those moments and feelings of such an enchanted day. Until we got our pictures. Our photos were viewable on the Kathleen’s website in such a short period of time. We were able to relive our love song time and time again through the feelings and emotions that were captured in our pictures. We were impressed with Kathleen’s professionalism and creativity from our first meeting. Although we had many interviews with photographers for our wedding, she was our first and none of the others could compare to her quality of work and work ethic. The first test for Kathleen working with John and I was our engagement photos. All our initial ideas would change many times. For instance, initially we wanted engagement photos at an apple orchard during the fall or at a park on the water, but ended up being photos in downtown Detroit on a windy not so fall day. We had ideas of an outdoor wedding in August, but ended up indoors in July. Her hard work and success with our photos was not without obstacles. But, Kathleen remained light-hearted and easy to work with during the whole process. In fact she took two people extremely uncomfortable in front of a camera and magically made only their love shine through. She made us feel like we belonged on the front of a magazine as the poster couple of love. We loved the engagement photos so much that I could have wallpapered our house with them. Until we got our wedding photo’s! Like our engagement photos, the venue for our wedding changed a couple times, but we were relieved that Kathleen was able to still be the photographer for our wedding. However, the truth is that I barely remember Kathleen at our wedding. Outside of her warm smile and congratulations when she first got there, it was not until we got our photos that we really saw how much she was there. Kathleen gave us a gift that we were not expecting after our wedding. She gave us these priceless moments back to relive and experience every time we open our photo books. We hired a photographer to take photos, but ended up developing a relationship with a kind heart who was able to capture the love that was shared at our wedding. The pictures are of high-quality and simply beautiful. Kathleen is a highly professional business woman who takes the time to get to know her clients in order to represent the realness of each moment she grabs. Through all our times that go by in a blink including having our first baby, we hope to have Kathleen immortalize these moments in a picture like she did our wedding day."
With much love,
John and Angela Gerke
